Applications are due on Friday, May 22 by 5 pm or by 5 pm Wednesday, May 20 if applying for President. The President application is due sooner because the chosen President will take part in choosing the rest of the Board with the Hillel staff.

Hillel Board

ALL BOARD MEMBERS WILL BE HELD TO THE FOLLOWING EXPECTATIONS BY THE PRESIDENT:

  • Work with entire board to organize, recruit, and facilitate all programming that the board organizes, including summer programming 

  • Work closely and collaboratively with professional Student Life Team (SLT) on their relevant areas of leadership and will receive professional development and mentorship from SLT

  • Arrive on time and participate fully in weekly board meetings, and participate in individual weekly supervision check-ins with the President

  • Establish individual goals with the President and meet these goals in the established timeline 

  • Set up and break down/clean up all Hillel events and create an inclusive environment during all events

  • Be a positive role model and ambassador for Hillel at Hillel/community events on campus and on social media

  • Successfully recruit, communicate with, empower, and supervise their committees 

  • Attend HBPB Board of Directors Meetings and development events as needed 

  • Meet engagement goals and be able to report their progress on a weekly basis 

  • Return all Hillel related texts and emails within 24 hours

 

PRESIDENT

In ongoing creative collaboration and with the support of  the Student Life Team (SLT) the President will:

  • Develop training and continuing leadership development for the Board beginning in June 2020 and continue through first semester

    • The President is responsible for the Board bonding as a team and for managing interpersonal conflict

  • Develop goals, expectations, and vision for the overall Hillel Board and is ultimately accountable for these goals 

    • Responsible for inspiring the Board to rally around their vision that will “take Hillel to the next level”

  • Supervise the Hillel Board and be ultimately responsible for their efforts

    • This includes holding them accountable to the goals set out for all Board members (i.e. Shabbat set-up, meeting attendance, etc.)

  • Develop an agenda and lead all Board meetings and follow up on all actions of meeting

    • President will take an active part in every Board member’s individual texting group with Rabbi Rose and each committee’s texting group - and continually support the Board members’ efforts

  • Meet (in person or virtually) with the presidents of Owls for Israel, Lynn, and Nova Southeastern University on a monthly basis to communicate about upcoming programs, areas for collaboration, and for bonding and brainstorming

  • Calendar of events is decided on collaboratively under the leadership of the President and SLT

  • Oversee significant Hillel events (Freshfest, Blue & White, Final Shabbat) 

  • Officially serve as President of the Jewish Student Union for Coso and fulfill all the responsibilities this entails: book rooms, book tables, apply for Coso funds, submit events/tabling forms on OwlCentral (and following up on these reservations), and serve as a member of the Vice President’s Advisory Council

 

Community vice president

  • Establish a vision and strategy for engagement, and enthusiastically lead said strategy - based on Hillel’s #1 goal of welcoming new Jewish students and re-engaging current students

  • Lead and organize recruitment for all Hillel events

  • Oversee tabling by:

    • Tabling on a weekly basis

    • Organizing Welcoming Committee members’ tabling schedule

    • Developing a monthly schedule for tabling which includes creative interactive content, supply lists, and delegation of all responsibilities

  • Help SLT plan and teach the Hillel Board’s substantial engagement training 

  • Set up their own coffee conversations, and keep the rest of committee and Board members accountable for their own engagement goals

  • Plan events where recruitment is the top priority (i.e. Blue and White, Welcome Week, Freshfest) and lead the committee for each program

  • Oversee the Welcoming Committee (formerly known as Engagement Interns) who are each:

    • Responsible for having 4 unique coffee conversations a month focusing on their communities of connection (Greek life, Freshmen, 21+, Student Government)

    • Responsible for including a note with 5 meaningful details about the student they had a coffee conversation with and has entered a follow-up plan for the student in our engagement database

    • Committed to serving as an ambassador for Hillel on campus by tabling weekly

    • Responsible for working with the entire Board to support their initiatives, especially via recruitment for events relevant to their communities of connection

 

ENLIGHTENMENT Vice presidenT

In a mentoring partnership with Rabbi Rose, the Enlightenment Vice President will:

  • Serve as the student mentor for all Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF) cohorts by:

    • Helping to plan and enact recruitment strategies 

    • Attending all JLF sessions, establishing positive relationships with participants, helping lead icebreakers and discussions, and communicating all announcements about JLF and Hillel events via the group text message

  • Coordinating The Weekly Dish (TWD) by helping to plan, recruit, welcome, and lead TWD

  • Serve on every Shabbat committee with the Social Vice President 

  • Lead Shabbat services and spiritual pre-games 

  • Organize all wellness experiences (i.e. yoga, meditation, organizing and expanding wellness corner)

  • Oversee the VAAD (Enlightenment Committee): 

    • The Enlightenment Committee will collaborate with the Vice President by supporting the content and recruitment for TWD and JLF, will take turns helping prep and lead Shabbat services and organizing wellness events, and recruiting for said programs

 

social vice president

  • Plan all Shabbat dinners, recruit members for and lead Party Planning Committee (PPC) for each Shabbat (including summer Zoom Shabbatot and Final Shabbat, which are both in conjunction with NSU Board)

    • With Party Planning Committee: plan all aspects of Shabbat, such as themes, decorations, menu, recruitment, program of events and logistics, and work closely with Aly to finalize menu, supply needs, and any payments in a timely fashion

  • Plan and execute social events for Jewish holidays (i.e. Snowcones in the Sukkah) in collaboration with Rabbi Rose and the PPC, and in collaboration with other campuses when relevant

  • Program topics may include tikkun olam, current events, networking, and other areas of interest

 

communications vice president

  • Manage social media platforms (Instagram & Facebook) and any new communication systems put in place by:

    • Maintaining a cohesive HBPB vibe through recruitment materials

    • Publicizing events by posting several times a week (including faces AND flyers) according to social media calendar that the Vice President owns and updates

    • Updating fun and interactive stories daily

    • Working with Development Team on their events as needed

  • Create flyers and graphics for for all Board programming in a timely and super-on-trend fashion 

  • Make sure all newly engaged students are following us on Instagram and vice versa

  • Make sure to tag students when pictures are posted

  • Take and collect photos at all events (or designate and keep a substitute accountable), post in real time, and organize all photos on the Google Drive and Facebook by event

  •  Create FAU Hillel swag and apparel (including Board swag)

  •  Take and share clear and user-friendly minutes at Board meetings

 

israel vice president

This leader will utilize Hillel’s professional and organizational resources to:

  • Engage students in positive connections with Israel 

  • Work with Communications Vice President to make sure Israel is a key part of our social media conversation

  • Engage new student for Birthright and re-engage past Birthright participants by:

    • Tabling for Birthright

    • Having coffee conversations focusing on past, present, and future Israel connection

    • Organizing Birthright reunions and follow-up programming

    • Designing and organizing Birthright swag 

  • Work closely with the Social Vice President to organize an Israel themed Shabbat and Enlightenment Vice President to plan Israel themed TWDs on topics such as spirituality, pop culture, or other areas of interest 

  • Act as Owls for Israel (OFI) liaison by:

    • Meeting every two weeks with OFI President to collaborate on pro-Israel efforts

    • Communicating about upcoming OFI and Hillel events

    • Supporting OFI in helping recruit, plan, and lead major programming as needed

 

Campus Outreach Vice President

  • Focus on building and maintaining coalition building on campus

  • Work with Maccabee Task Force team to do recruitment and follow-up

  • Work closely with Owls For Israel to recruit diverse pro-Israel students to Hillel

  • Create connections with Greek life organizations on campus (i.e. IFC, Panhellenic, Greek orientation)

  • Engage in interfaith outreach to other groups on campus 

  • Work on MitzVote initiative to engage students and political organizations  on campus

  • Work with FAU organizations such as OwlsCare and student programming boards to make sure we are represented 

  • Select a variety of organizations to connect with throughout the year, where they will attend a meeting, and make announcements and connections to Hillel

  • Encourage other student groups to promote their organizations at our campus-based Hillel events 

  • Serve as Hillel PR on campus by making announcements in large classes and creating connections with FAU faculty and administration

  • Support and partner with Hillel’s Career Accelerator program

  • Work with the university to ensure Hillel’s participation in campus events

  • Oversee the FAU Campus Coalition Committee (2-4 students) which will engage and partner with other organizations on campus
