Rabbi Rose Durbin is excited to jump right in and join the amazing team here at Hillel. Rabbi Rose grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, spent her summers at URJ Camp Coleman, and rocked her local youth group. During her time at Brown University she participated in the first ever Birthright cohort, led her Hillel's Jewish Women's group, used a hammer during the Hillel alternative spring break, coordinated the university's Women Peer Counseling program and studied Community Health. Following graduation, she worked at the URJ Youth department, where she supported student leaders from Hillels across the country, and led several Birthright Israel trips. During her time in NYC, she served several congregations as a student rabbi (including one in the U.K.), and was a student chaplain. She presented her rabbinic thesis; “David’s Divas: An Analysis of Michael, Abigail and Bathsheba’s Political Influence,” and was ordained from HUC-JIR in 2010. Following ordination, Rabbi Rose served as the Director of Education for several synagogues in upstate NY before she became the rabbi of Knesseth Israel Synagogue in Gloversville, NY. Rabbi Rose has extensive leadership experience working with students, most recently serving as the Director of Youth Education at Temple Judea in Palm Beach Gardens. Rabbi Rose, her husband Rabbi Matthew Durbin and their opinionated and cuddly daughters, Delilah, Maya and Eliana, live in Palm City, where you will find her attending hot piloga classes, eating Indian food, and binge-watching Netflix. Ask Rabbi Rose about her tikkun olam adventures; like leading bingo games in Jerusalem, building latrines in Senegal with AJWS, and channeling her inner Taylor Swift to raise money for prenatal care and education.
